C.S. Lewis "On Living in an Atomic Age"

Here are some resources I use in teaching C.S. Lewis's "On Living in an Atomic Age", including a copy of the text and PDF of the power point presentation I use as in aid in class (sections below).

My goal with this text is to get students thinking about existential questions such as, “What is the meaning of life?” and “What is the purpose of humanity's existence?”, which will draw them into philosophy and reflection on their own lives. I also aim to get students thinking about what kind of resources there are for answering such questions through Lewis’s discussion of “science” and “Nature”.

Lewis argues that the view of nature which science provides, what we might call scientific naturalism, construes everything as the product of blind physical forces and is thus unable to provide answers to questions of meaning and purpose which speak to the human heart. Lewis's arguments and strategy provide students with an opportunity to think about their own relationship to science and to nature, as well as begin discussing and thinking about how to evaluate arguments and theories in light of our lived experiences.
